Director’s Welcome
Welcome to the Writing Center
at Eastern Kentucky University. We are currently working on making our
website more helpful by offering useful resources and links for student
writers, so check back often!
My dedicated staff and I are
committed to helping students develop composition skills, and though
we are not an editing service, we offer a diverse selection of services.
The Writing Center is for all students, at all levels, and at all stages
of the writing process. Our services are free of charge. Tutors are
available to assist students with topic selection; brainstorming; research
documentation; reading comprehension; topic development; UWR (University
Writing Exam) preparation; and revision. The Center offers a wide variety
of resources to students, including MLA, APA and Chicago style documentation
manuals; dictionaries and thesauruses; grammar handbooks; and sample
UWR writing prompts.
Our skilled and enthusiastic
tutors are comprised primarily of English graduate students who understand
the pressure and stress that come with writing assignments. Make sure
you check out the tutor profiles to become more familiar with our wonderful
staff.
As for myself, I have been
teaching at Eastern since 2000. I actually started out as a graduate
assistant tutoring right here in our Writing Center. Since then, I have
become a lecturer in the English department, teaching everything from
developmental composition to world literature classes. My professional
interests include Old English and Medieval Literature as well as Feminist
Theory.
If you have any questions or
comments about our Center, do not hesitate to contact us. We hope you
see you soon!
