Tuition Rates for the MFA Program in Creative Writing

All MFA courses are designated by EKU as “100% online” classes. For this reason, all students* in the program, regardless of residency status, will pay a standard online course rate of $410 per hour each semester in the MFA program.

*During a regular fall or spring semester, however, in-state students will never pay more (unless current tuition rates are increased) than the maximum graduate in-state tuition rate of $3316.

In general, then, the following tuition rates will apply for students enrolled full-time in the MFA program:

Fall Semester (9 hours)
ENW 810 (3 hours)
ENW 820 (6 hours)

In-State Students: $3316
All Out-of-State Students: $3690

Spring Semester (12 hours)
ENW 800 (3 hours) (Two-Week Winter Residency in Lexington, KY)
ENW 810 (3 hours)
ENW 820 (6 hours)

In-State Students: $3316
All Out-of-State Students: $4920

Summer Semester (3 hours)
ENW 800 x 1 (3 hours) (Summer Residency – 2 weeks in Mexico)

All Students (regardless of residency status): $1230

Summer Semester (6 hours)
ENW 800 x 2 (6 hours) (Summer Residency – 4 weeks in Mexico)

All Students (regardless of residency status): $2460

Additional Expenses
Please note that the above tuition rates do not include the cost of travel, lodging, or meals during annual residencies.

Graduate Assistantships
Currently, the program is able to offer only one graduate assistantship each year. This assistantship will be awarded to a continuing student in the program who lives within convenient driving distance of the Richmond campus.
