Curriculum

To satisfy the requirements for the MFA in creative writing, students will complete the following courses:

Four Sections (12 hours)

  • ENW 800 Writing Residency (3 credits): An intensive 11-14 day residency, taken at an off-campus location: Winters, in Lexington, KY (a spring semester course); Summers in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. (The summer residency in San Miguel may be taken for three hours of credit, if a student attends for two weeks, or for six hours of credit, if a student attends the residency for a full month.)

Four Sections (12 hours)

  • ENW 810 Topics in Creative Writing (3 credits): An online literature course for creative writers. Students read extensively in contemporary literature, and write critical essays in response to these readings.

Four Sections (24 hours)

    • ENW 820 Low-residency Mentoring/Workshop (6 credits): Students participate in an intensive online writing workshop conducted via Blackboard, conference call, and/or other media. Students work privately with the instructor as well on a series of comprehensive revisions of their creative work. Students also read extensively in contemporary literature, and write critical essays in response to these readings.
