About The Chaffin JournalThe Chaffin Journal is a national literary magazine that is published once a year. The journal is housed at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. The digest-sized literary magazine was started in 1998 with an endowment from a distinquished EKU alumna, Lillie D. Chaffin, who bequeathed $20,000 to the English Department for the support of a literary magazine. Lillie Chaffin, a native of Pike County, Kentucky, was a poet, an editor, a librarian, a teacher, and a Kentucky Poet Laureate. She published 17 books, and was an advocate of women, Appalachian writers, and young writers. Ms. Chaffin died in 1993. Bill Sutton was the first editor of The Chaffin Journal, which took the place of the journal Scripsit. Daryl Halbrooks has done the journal's cover art. |
