About the Writing Awards

Each year, the Department of English honors the best papers submitted by faculty at an awards banquet. Every class that requires writing has a category, from basic writing to graduate creative writing courses.

This year's banquet will be April 20, 2004, at 7 pm in the Stratton Cafeteria. Dr. Joe Survant, Kentucky's Poet Laureate and professor at Western Kentucky University, will be the featured speaker.

Faculty Submission Instructions
Faculty may enter any paper written between March 31, 2003, and the Spring 2004 deadline. With a category for every course that requires writing, almost any paper written for an English course is eligible.

Entry forms are available from the closet between Martha Marcum's office and the student workers' room. Fill out the form, staple it to the paper, and put them both in the box near the entry forms. Instructors may enter two papers per category.

Instructors at the extended campus centers can mail papers to Dr. Marshall Myers. Please include the category and the address and phone number of the student.
