Scholarships for English Majors

Outstanding Senior Award
This award honors a graduating senior who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship, leadership, and promise.  Any senior English or Theatre major who will graduate in May, August, or December 2011 with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 is eligible to apply.  Recent winners have received around $300.  The deadline is February 15, 2011.

Philip H. Mankin Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is presented to a junior English major who has demonstrated high academic achievement and a love for language and literature.  Any English major who currently has between 60-89 credit hours and a grade point average of 3.25 or higher is eligible to apply.  Recent winners have received around $750.  The deadline is February 15, 2011.

Donn Johnson Endowed English Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an English major with a financial need in the Kentucky Service Region with at least a 3.25 GPA.  Recent winners have received around $600.  The deadline is February 15, 2011.

Bonnie Plummer Endowed Study Abroad Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to English majors or graduate students and provides financial support for tuition, room, and/or board to students attending EKU while studying outside of the United States in a University-approved program for study abroad classroom credit.  Recent winners have received around $500.  The deadline is February 15, 2011.

Hazel Chrisman Memorial English Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a full-time freshman English major with good high school GPA and ACT score with financial need.  The scholarship is renewable with a 3.6 GPA in English courses and satisfactory overall progress toward a degree.  Recent winners have received around $250.  The deadline is February 15, 2011.

Rose Doyle Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a full-time English Teaching major with at least a 3.25 grade point average.   The winner will receive around $750.  The deadline is February 15, 2011.

EKU Theatre Scholarships
The Theatre program offers the EKU Theatre Scholarship (open to any declared theatre major) and the Pearl Buchanan Scholarship (open only to incoming freshman theatre majors).  Awards have been as large as $1000 and are applied to tuition and fees for the coming year.  Contact Jim Moreton at 622-1315, or email him at James.Moreton@eku.edu for more information.
