I. General Information

4. Do transfer students have to take the exam?

If you transfer into EKU with 60 or more hours, you must take the exam during your first semester at EKU. However, if you have significantly more than 60 hours, you can and should take the exam before beginning your first semester at EKU. If you transfer in to EKU with 100 or more hours, you must take the UWR exam during your first semester.  However, you can and should take the exam before beginning your first semester at EKU.  If you fail it, you cannot continue courses at EKU after your first semester.  Transfer students entering the university with over 60 hours have little time to correct writing deficiencies through additional course work.  However, you can get help: The Writing Center has trained tutors who will help you prepare for exam; also most semesters, a UWR preparation workshop is offered.  This workshop is not required, but it does provide answers to the frequently asked questions as well as strategies for successfully completing the exam.
